The Anti-Soviet propaganda insisted for a long time that there are miserable and semiliterate people vegetating behind the "Iron Curtain". (This impression was also supported by the Western mass media reports of the 90s about the paralyzed post-Soviet economy, making no mention of the real causes of this collapse.) According to the data of Russian marriage agencies, 80% of Russian brides have a higher education or study in a college. This is why a French writer Patrick Besson made the following joke on the radio: "What is the difference between a Russian blonde and a blonde in general? A Russian blonde can play chess".
A Russian woman in a French foreign affair is relaxed and comfortable. She never feels awkward and does not have an inferiority complex, which you would suppose in a person who came from a country with low life standards. There is nothing surprising about it. We feel small and poor when compared to the rich and strong. In the Soviet Union, everyone was the same. Equality was not just a word. (And much of the population still thinks the rich "new Russians" to be a temporary evil.)
This is why the Russian Cinderella is self-assured and dignified. Moreover, she does not know much about the class nuances of the French society. Maybe she would feel them later, but she would think that they do not concern her because she is in a foreign affair. That is, if her environment does not stress them or if her husband does not insist on her watching those nuances - he, as any French person, would know his social premises and would be aware that one should not leave them.
